Narcissus ‘Smiling Twin’ – A Springtime Star

My husband and I have 2 sets of “grandtwins” and my mother and aunt are twins, so twins are special in our family.  I guess that’s why the Narcissus ‘Smiling Twin’ Daffodil is special to me.  Although I can’t grow them in my very shady yard, I have planted them in other family yards and our local cemetery.  Needless to say I love the Smiling Twin daffodil!  With that said here’s a little information about this amazing little flower:

Daffodils are the most cost effective, pest-free, long-term perennial plants available and make wonderful companions with other bulbs, perennials, annuals and flowering shrubs.  Narcissus ‘Smiling Twin’ is a captivating daffodil cultivar, prized for its eye-catching form and gentle fragrance.

Each stem bears two blooms in a pleasing triangle formation. The broad, white perianth segments overlap slightly, while the light‑yellow corona is deeply split to the base and frilled—a hallmark of the split‑cup form.   Flowers measure around 3 inches across (about 80 mm) and typically bloom in mid to late spring, around March through April depending on your climate.  This perennial reaches heights between 12 to 18 inches (approximately 32 to 67 cm). It is hardy across USDA zones 4–8, and even in harsher zones up to 2 according to some sources.

  • Light & Soil: Thrives in full sun to part shade with well‑drained soil. Plant bulbs approximately twice their depth—roughly 10 cm—spacing them about 5‑10 cm apart.
  • Hardiness & Care: These bulbs naturalize well with minimal maintenance, reliably returning each spring. They’re also deer‑ and rabbit‑resistant—bonus! Its dual blossoms, delicate frilled corona, and two‑tone white‑and‑yellow palette make Smiling Twin a standout for borders, containers, or cut‑flower displays. Its structure and soothing colors offer visual interest even as more standard daffodils fade.

In short, Narcissus ‘Smiling Twin’ is a joyful, low‑maintenance choice for gardeners seeking unique spring character—with twin blooms that truly live up to the “Smiling Twin” name.
