Session 1: Designing Your Edible Garden – Elizabeth Waldrop, Smith County Master Gardener
– 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM
– When creating a landscape that supports a thriving edible garden, consider key elements such as sun exposure, water access, and space planning. Review alternatives like a Community Garden or Container Gardening.
Session 2: Organic Methods for Healthy Soil – Clint Perkins, Agriculture and Natural Resources
– 9:45 AM – 10:30 AM
-Introduction to soil health, preparation methods, and organic practices such as composting, mulching, and soil amendments. Enhance plant growth with a simple soil test, understand what it measures, and learn how to manage nutrients effectively.

Tour of the Tyler Botanical Gardens – IDEA Garden
11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
-Tour the IDEA garden to see a demonstration of effective composting techniques and various planting methods for warm-weather vegetables.
