Texas Superstar – Advanced Training

The Texas Superstar® Advanced Training is a Texas Master Gardener Advanced Training program that focuses on the selection, use, and education of Texas Superstar® plants.
The training provides Master Gardeners with research-based information about the Texas Superstar® program, how plants are selected, and how to educate the public on choosing landscape plants that perform well across Texas.
The Texas Superstar® program is developed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in cooperation with Texas A&M AgriLife Research.
Training Includes:

- The history and mission of the Texas Superstar® program.
- Research and evaluation methods used to select Superstar® plants.
- Annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vines, turf, and specialty plants carrying the designation.
- Proper planting and maintenance techniques.
- Water-wise landscaping principles.
- Helping homeowners select “the right plant for the right place.”
- Educational outreach strategies for county Master Gardener programs.
Advanced Training Requirements:
- Complete the educational training.
- Fulfill a minimum of 20 additional service hours, above the recertification hours, related to the subject matter after completing the course (requirements are established by the training organizers and the volunteer’s county extension agent).
- Share their knowledge through educational outreach in their county programs.
