Mineola Nature Preserve

Texas A&M AgriLife to Host Mineola Nature Tour March 27

The public is invited to experience one of East Texas’s most remarkable natural treasures during the upcoming Mineola Nature Preserve Tour, scheduled (rain or shine) for Friday, March 27, 2026. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Preserve Pavilion, followed by a guided walking tour from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Led by Greg Grant, Ph.D., Smith County Horticulturist and award‑winning naturalist, the tour will explore the preserve’s diverse native plants, wildlife habitats, and unique ecosystems. Grant will highlight how land‑use changes and thoughtful management shape the landscape, offering participants an engaging look at the birds, bees, butterflies and everything in between.

Located at 1860 County Road 2724 in Mineola, the 2,900‑acre Mineola Nature Preserve is a premier outdoor destination, featuring wetlands, prairies, woodlands, and miles of scenic trails along the Sabine River. This guided tour provides a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of East Texas’s most respected naturalists while enjoying the preserve’s spring beauty.

Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. To reserve a spot, call the Wood County Extension Office at (903) 763‑2924 or the Smith County Extension Office at (903) 590‑2980. Wear appropriate shoes as there will hiking and uneven terrain. Tip books offering gardening tips, tasks, and recipes will be available for purchase from the Wood County Master Gardeners.

The event is presented by the Wood County Master Gardeners and the Smith County Earth‑Kind Environmental Educational Committee.
