DESCRIPTION:SFA Gardens to Host Garden Seminar on Plant Propagation \nWhen: May 9\, 2026\nTime: 9 am to noon\nWhere: Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center\, located at 2900 Raguet Street\, Nacogdoches. \nThe seminar will feature Dr. Andrew King\, assistant professor of ornamental horticulture at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Overton. With a rich heritage as a 4th-generation horticulturist in a family that has been active in the nursery industry for over 110 years\, Dr. King brings a wealth of knowledge to the session. His experience includes serving on the faculty in the Texas A&M Department of Horticultural Sciences and as the Assistant Director of SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University. \nDuring this seminar\, Dr. King will present “Plant Propagation\,” in which he will demonstrate essential propagation techniques\, including cuttings and seed sowing. Attendees will have the chance to get hands-on experience with propagating plants and will even take their newly propagated plants home. Dr. King emphasizes\, “The workshop will be a great opportunity for gardeners to learn the basics of propagation.” \nRegistration costs are $25 for SFA Gardens members and $35 for nonmembers. SUMMARY:SFA Gardens Lecture to Feature Raised Bed Gardening
DESCRIPTION:SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 pm on February 12 in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center\, 2900 Raguet Street\, Nacogdoches.  Ed Bush\, professor in the School of Plant\, Environmental and Soil Science at Louisiana State University\, will discuss “Growing Your Best Garden Plants Using Raised Beds.” \nBush teaches both undergraduate and graduate horticulture classes at LSU\, including plant propagation\, urban landscape management and nursery management.  His research interests are plant stress physiology and developmental nursery crops.  Bush has served as the LSU Coastal Roots Program since 2001\, and he has mentored over 100 high school and middle school students involved in the Louisiana Science Fair. \nThe Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held on the second Thursday of each month and includes a plant raffle after the program.  Attendance is free and open to the public\, and donations to the lecture series fund are always appreciated.  Parking is available at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center or next door at Raguet Elementary School\, 2708 Raguet Street. \nFor more information\, call (936) 468-4129 or email sfagardens@sfasu.edu.
