SUMMARY:Tri-County Pollinator Series Highlights iNaturalist Training in Smith County
DESCRIPTION:Master Gardeners\, Master Naturalists\, and Pollinator enthusiasts across East Texas are invited to join the Tri-County Pollinator Series\, a collaborative educational effort by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Cherokee\, Smith\, and Rusk counties. This summer’s program will spotlight the power of citizen science through iNaturalist\, a free app that helps users identify and record native plants and pollinators. \nOn July 17\, from 10 a.m. to noon\, participants will gather in the Smith County Extension Office classroom to learn how to use iNaturalist to identify and document native pollinators. The session will be led by Smith County Horticulturist Greg Grant\, with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Greg will demonstrate how everyday observations contribute to regional conservation data and knowledge. Attendees will gain hands-on experience photographing insects and plants\, uploading sightings\, and connecting with a global community of naturalists. \nThe July workshop is part of a three-event series celebrating pollinators’ vital role in Texas ecosystems. Earlier sessions include a native plant and pollinator workshop at Caddo Mounds State Historic Site on April 17. The series concludes on August 14 in Rusk County with a honey-tasting program exploring how floral diversity shapes flavor. \nSpace is limited for the Smith County event\, and advance registration is encouraged. For details or to reserve a spot\, contact the Smith County Extension Office at 903-590-2980. \nTogether\, these programs aim to inspire East Texans to observe\, appreciate\, and protect the pollinators that sustain our landscapes.

Without these vital waystations\, monarchs struggle to reproduce and fail to maintain the stamina required for their extensive migrations. \nWant to make a real difference for these beautiful creatures? Transform your backyard into a certified monarch waystation! Join us for an enlightening presentation on Planting for Monarchs\, where you will discover the best native plants to fuel and support their extraordinary migration. \n\nDate: Wednesday\, July 22\, 2026\nTime: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm\nLocation: Cotton Belt Building\, 1517 W Front St\, Ste 116\, Tyler\, Texas 75702\nSpeaker: Carol Clark (Texas Master Naturalist\, Native Plant Society of Texas\, and Conservation Specialist with Monarch Watch)\n\nBrought to You By: \n\nTexas A&M AgriLife Extension\nSmith County Master Gardeners\n\n Reserve Your Spot Today! \nSpace is limited. SUMMARY:How to Plant with Purpose: Designing a Native Oasis
DESCRIPTION:Gardeners\, nature enthusiasts\, and homeowners interested in creating beautiful\, pollinator-friendly landscapes are invited to attend an upcoming educational program focused on designing native plant gardens with both purpose and visual appeal. \nSummer Garden Series sponsored by the following:\n– Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Earth-Kind Committee\n– Smith County Master Gardeners\n– City of Tyler Water Utilities\n– The Nectar Connector \nNative Plant Garden Design Program\nWhen:   Wednesday\, August 19\, 2026\nTime:     2:00 pm – 4:00 pm\nWhere:   Cotton Belt Building classroom\, 1517 W. Front Street\, Tyler \nThe featured speaker will be Dawn Stover\, a horticulturist\, conservationist\, and consultant with The Nectar Connector. Stover specializes in helping gardeners develop landscapes that support pollinators and wildlife while maintaining beauty\, structure\, and functionality. During the program\, she will discuss how to thoughtfully select and combine native plants to create attractive\, well-designed gardens that provide ecological benefits year-round. \nNative plants have become increasingly popular across East Texas because they provide food and habitat for birds\, butterflies\, bees\, and other beneficial wildlife\, while often requiring less water\, fertilizer\, and pesticides once established. However\, many homeowners remain hesitant to use native plants because they perceive native gardens as wild or unorganized. This presentation will demonstrate how careful planning and plant selection can create landscapes that are both environmentally beneficial and aesthetically pleasing. \nThe program is especially timely for East Texas residents seeking gardening solutions that address summer heat\, drought\, and water conservation. Participants will learn practical strategies for choosing plants that thrive together and creating landscapes that are both sustainable and inviting. \nThe event welcomes home gardeners\, Master Gardeners\, Master Naturalists\, and anyone interested in enhancing their landscape with native plants. Registration is encouraged. Participants can register by accessing the event flyer on the Greg Grant Gardens Facebook page or by calling the Smith County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 903-590-2980.
